The gathering typically takes place on Monday nights from 6:30-8pm and is led by Pastor Jeff. Always biblically based, though largely throwing pre-packaged curriculum out the window, the class has covered a wide range of eclectic topics—from Jesus Christ Movie Star, which looked at portrayals of Jesus throughout the history of film, to an in-depth study of the Book of Daniel, to a study of the Presbyterian Confessions—each 6-8 week course offers a thought-provoking look at different subjects for the purpose of helping learners connect life and faith. It underlines the idea that as disciples of Jesus Christ we are to be life-time learners!
According to the Presbyterian Book of Order [G-2.0201], the ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. We have recently re-organized our Deacons to be more aligned with this understanding and are always looking for people who are called to love and serve the people of God. The Deacons are currently moderated by Beth Kochheiser.
Presbyterian Women, Inc., (PW) is the women’s organization in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a community of more than 200,000 women who align their ministry and hearts around a shared purpose, the PW Purpose. Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, PW commit themselves
• to nurture their faith through prayer and Bible study,
• to support the mission of the church worldwide,
• to work for justice and peace, and
• to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
At the national level, PW provides the resources, direction and opportunities to fulfill the organization’s mission and ministry. Their connectional structure allows you to participate as deeply and/or broadly in the organization and its commitments as you wish.
The PW Circles are the local groups of Presbyterian Woman here at Westwood First. They have been an integral part of the mission and ministry of Westwood First for over a century.
